This elderberry syrup recipe is easy and can be made with dried elderberries, honey and herbs for an immune boosting and delicious syrup.



This recipe takes a few minutes to put together and about an hour to cook.. plan about an hour and a half to 2 hours from start to finish (lots of down time in the middle.

This should make 3 or so cups.


3½ cups water

2/3 cup black elderberries(dried, or 1 1/3 cups fresh or frozen

2 TBSP ginger (grated)

1 tsp  Cinnamon

½ tsp  ground cloves

1 cup raw honey

How I make it.. Pour the water into a medium saucepan and add the elderberries, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring to a boil and then cover and reduce to a simmer for about 1 hour until the liquid has reduced by almost half. Remove from heat and let cool until it is cool enough to be handled. I sometimes will put ice in a freezer bag.. seal it and put it in the juices to quicken the cooling off period. Mash the berries carefully using a spoon or other flat utensil. Pour through a Cheese cloth if you have one. you may use a strainer but to get all the juices out its better to pour into a bowl and then squeeze the berries through the cheese cloth to get all the juices out.

Let the Juice cool to a warm temp. once at a warm/cool temp, add the honey and stir well. When the honey is well mixed into the elderberry pour the syrup into a  Glass sealable container. Store in the fridge and take daily for its immune boosting properties. Some sources recommend taking only during the week and not on the weekends to boost immunity.
